ROLE SUMMARY:
We are seeking a full-time Vice President of Platform to lead Bluestem’s effort in architecting a computational synthetic biology platform. Ideal candidates will be highly experienced in computational tools for pathway prediction and protein design. Additionally, candidates should have experience in architecting data schemas and ingesting different formats of multi-omics data. The VP of platform will be empowered to create,direct and oversee the vision for Bluestem’s technology platform which aims to solve problems and open new opportunities for in silico experimentation, techno-economic modeling, and technology transfer.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Spearhead development and execution of the software/tool development strategy and roadmap
- Create and implement a robust development operations process
- Evaluate and curate publicly available tools and databases that can be incorporated into the development strategy
- Recruit, hire and supervise a team of 4-6 engineers, computational biologists/chemists as needed to execute against the strategy
- Work to automate in silico workflows, data ingestion and evaluation.
- Work with research partners to create processes and workflows for tech transfer protocols
- Contribute to the advancement of Bluestem’s techno-economic modeling process
- Develop deep domain expertise by keeping up to date with literature and the latest computational technologies
Requirements
- Ph.D. in Computational Biology, Molecular Biology or related field with 7+ years of experience
- 5+ Years in Python, Javascript or other relevant programming languages
- Strong supervisory skills. Demonstrated ability to effectively supervise, inspire, and develop scientists and engineers
- Broad understanding of in-silico workflows, available computational tools and strain engineering techniques
- Broad experience in building/architecting full-stack software applications from Database Schema to UI/UX
- Working knowledge wet-lab techniques and workflows in strain engineering
- Experience working with CROs across discovery workflow
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal and ability to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment (start-up!)
- Self-starter and ability to lead projects, build relationships and be a vocal representative of the company
- Working knowledge of available computational tools, capabilities and strategies
- Organizational agility and the ability to show collaboration and interest across the organization to bring together multi-disciplines and synthesize for external communications

Bluestem is excited to offer a remote-first working model. Team members can work primarily remotely. Conditions permitting, teams will meet in person every quarter or two at Bluestem’s hub, in Omaha, NE.
