ABOUT US:
Bluestem Biosciences, Inc., is designing biology with the end in mind, to enable existing infrastructure in the Midwest for industrial biotechnology.
We are leveraging digital biology to facilitate discovery for biomanufacturing, focused on the sustainable production of chemicals and materials.

ROLE SUMMARY:
We are seeking a full-time Scientist  for Systems Biology to join Bluestem’s top-talented scientific team. Ideal candidates will be experts in bacterial and fungal physiology and metabolism. Additionally, they will have a strong understanding of bipathway and carbon stoichiometry. This role will be interacting with our computational team, as well as our external research partners to facilitate a continually optimized approach to discovery.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist in curating, building and incorporating genome-based modeling into Bluestem’s computational platform
  • Design, execution and analysis of (multi) ‘omics data from experiments, eg interpretation and visualization
  • Build kinetic models to describe fermentation processes and apply these models into the Bluestem technology platform and broader DBTL framework
  • Conduct metabolomics work, flux analysis, redox balancing within the Bluestem discovery workflows
  • Stay up-to-date with latest research and computational tools relevant to systems biology
Requirements
  • Ph.D. in Systems Biology, Microbial Physiology, or related field  with 3+ years of industry  or academic (post-doc) experience
  • A strong understanding of microbial physiology and experience with analyzing omics data
  • Working knowledge of, and hands-on experience with fermentations
  • Experiences with analytical software and tools, languages (Python, R) to anlyze ‘omics data
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal and ability to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment (start-up!)
  • Self-starter and ability to lead projects, build relationships and be a vocal representative of the companyWorking knowledge of available computational tools, capabilities and strategies
  • Organizational agility and the ability to show collaboration and interest across the organization to bring together multi-disciplines and synthesize for external communications

Conditions permitting, teams will meet in person every quarter or two at Bluestem’s hub, in Omaha, NE.
